once you get your cdl and pay it off you can go anywhere. some of the smaller companies want 3 years experience because insurance wont cover you but i found my job with 1 year experience and making 50k a year and home every night. the first year will determine if you have what it takes to be a trucker. not all trucking jobs require you to be gone 3 weeks or something at a time.

I would like to be home on the daily , I have my kids sports and school also

long haul is where you make the money, or if you go up north
its not a bad job, except in the winter here it's shit, and it gets boring fast

definitely don't join the military then, and steer clear of trucking.
9-5 jobs that pay well are hard to come by man, you might have to stick it out with a shift job 4 12's 4 off etc ..
apply at your local unions

i made 310 dollars last friday on 2 loads. we get paid great. where i live 50k a year is good money its not really expensive here so it supports my wife and kids comfortably. my first job was with usa truck and i didnt make shit there. my slow weeks here i bring home 500 after taxes.
