On to removing the worn out rear sprocket. Some people like putting the wheel on a bench or the ground with the rotor on a towel. I like to stand it up and hold it between my legs. I find I can work a lot faster this way because the wheel is locked down.

The technique here is to use the allen key to HOLD the fastener and use the wrench to loosen the nut. You WILL strip the allen side if you try to turn it with an allen key or an allen socket. Unbolt it and it will pop right off the hub.

Technically my Formula build thread is still ongoing but I haven't done anything in like 2 years.

This is a comparison of the teeth from the old worn out 50 tooth steel sprocket and the new 52 tooth Renthal Ultralight. The ultralight is T6 aluminum and is one of the tougher aluminum sprockets out there. They do wear out faster but the small drop in rotational mass is nice.

This show the difference in diameter 2 teeth makes. With a 13 tooth (stock) front sprocket this will gear the bike down by 6-7%. That will let me ride slower in 1st gear with less clutch slip in the really tight stuff which will help with stalling. It will also let me get into 2nd gear a little earlier. I will still rarely get into 5th so the only down side is it makes the power hit much snappier down low. I have something in the mail to help that though... An 11 ounce flywheel weight from Steahly offroad. That will smooth out the power hit and make it easier to ride and easier to hook the back tire. I will take pictures of that when it gets here.

New sprocket installed on the wheel. It is 1 sided. The bolt holes are tapered so you can't really fuck it up.

I thoroughly cleaned it after I was done. Washing it then working on it would have just gotten it dirty again.

Remove cover to expose countershaft sprocket - check

The old chain fell apart when I took the clip off of the master link so no pictures of the process.

Thread the chain over the countershaft sprocket. I ordered the correct length for the taller rear sprocket so I didn't have to cut any of the 116 links off. Join the chain and insert the master link

Fuck the hub, clean that smudge off the camera lense! (also 2 of these pictures were taken upside down  )

Should run like a beaute when you're done, looks like fun.

Using my Motion Pro combo chain breaker and press I lined up the rivets and the side plate, turn to press. Since it is a clip style master link it only needs to be pressed enough to slide the clip on.

You can barely see the gap behind the pins
