Get a DA buffer. Its 99% impossible to fuck your paint up with one of those. Meguiars sells a 4" DA head that attaches to a drill. Its cheap and works well. Its perfect if you dont want to blow $500 on a porter cable or Flex with pads. I think its $60 and they sell it at walmart.
I use meguiars gold class and a lambs wool mitt with the 2 bucket method. Meguiars clay bar, and adams polishes. I actually like meguiars tech wax 2.0 for a good polymer sealant wax. It lasts a long time and its cheap.
it is about 60 at walmart. I heard it works good but will wear out your drill batteries pretty quickly if you don't have a corded, I have this one:

The pads are $10-$12 each, so you'd just need the polisher, a compound pad, polish pad, wax pad.
OP never posted again though so I'll leave him with this flow chart from autogeek and the exact stuff I use (which is similar to everyone else) in order when I do a full on job (not just wash/wax)
Meguiars Gold Class Car Wash
Meguiars Smooth Surface Clay Kit
Meguiars Ultimate Polish
Meguiars Ultimate Liquid Wax
If your paint is crappy, add in Meguiars Ultimate Compound in between the Clay/Polish. Also, I haven't used it yet, but some people use A Glaze in Between the polish and wax, so i can't comment on that
For Glass, I always use Stoner Invisible Glass and the blue glass paper towels to avoid streaking. For the chrome I been using Mother's Chrome Polish but I got some of the Meguiars that I'm going to try when the Mothers runs out.
Here is the flow chart
