Yeah the e39 is gonna go on craigslist soon, i'd love to find a e39 540i with the 6 speed or a true m5.
I'm hooked on the 3 series now though I think, I believe i'll keep this e36 and maybe even trade my e60 in on a e90 M3 Sedan
I love the e46 m3, the s54 is a complete monster and takes well to mods, but BMW never offered them in a sedan. (I have a 3 year old)
I actually saw a e46 330i sedan with a complete s54/6 speed swap in seattle but the pricetag wasn't attractive.
Tell me more about this m6, how fun was that thing to drive? I've never had the pleasure of having a BMW v10 under my foot.
yeap e46 brought back memories, I had a topaz blue and a titanium silver. One in SMG2 and one in 6MT.
Well for M6, I had the e46 SMG2, and M5 pre-LCI SMG3 and also the M6 LCI SMG3.
I tried the M5 in 6MT several times and I didn't rly like the power delivery, gear ratio is kinda weird since it only has 6 gears instead of 7.
The car is sort of built for SMG. I know most people hate the SMG, but ive been driving SMG for 10 years, even SMG1 on e36,
and most people try to drive it like an automatic, which it is for from. You really gotta drive it like a sequential race gearbox, pretend the clutch pedeal is not there,
you really gotta feel the clutch engaging. Most people I know with a fukd up transmission is because they even put it on auto mode, that will really kill your smg pump and clutch and flywheel.
As to power, the V10 def one of my favorite powerplants. Obviously the power is amazing, but im into high torque at high rpms, linear increasing power, that's best way for me to modulate power during a track or normal roads.
Probably worse is the mpg, my combine average for M5/M6 usually fall between 8.8 and 10.2 mpg.
