I'm against it, but only because allowing the good riders to lane-split is allowing the shitty kids to do it too.

Hm. While I don't necessarily agree with your position, this is a reasonable argument.

also chow as to your first comment about "because they can fit" does that mean if i can squeeze my semi between 2 lanes of traffic i should be allowed to do it also?

Haha. Right on. :D

Hm. So far, the argument of "If we let the responsible people do it, we have to let the dumb@sses do it, too" seems to be the most reasonable.

So, should we make motorcycle tests / licensing more stringent? Do you think this would reduce the problem of dumb@sses lane-splitting?

(I don't imagine that we can ever completely eliminate the problem of dumb@sses lane-splitting, unless we do away with lane-splitting outright, which doesn't seem reasonable to me.)

I don't see why this is really an issue of it being allowed or not....People on bikes basically do whatever the hell they want anyway....As far as I know cops don't even pursue motorcyclists that are doing stupid shit/speeding because most of them just take off anyway, most cops won't follow because 1) they can't catch them and 2) there is a very real possibility that the biker may wreck and it will almost definitely be fatal.

Lane splitting or not I've always thought the tests should be tougher... Considering when I was 16 I spent 3 weeks studying/practicing for my endorsement and was asked to basically ride in a circle once and answer 20 questions about traffic law for my test. Even as a kid I thought that was dumb.

just because someone knows the right way to do it doesnt mean they are going to do it that way. theres no way to give someone a motorcycle license and guarantee that they are going to be responsible. i think drivers ed in high school should be mandatory and it should be a hell of a lot more informative and educational. if people are taught the bare essentials to get their license and then are basically told there you go you know what youre doing then it isnt helping them. i think if they were taught better about driving cars and blind spots and the different dangerous situations they might encounter it may actually translate to motorcyclists being a little more responsible.
