ok that makes sense, dirtbikes are made to be light and have few electronics, so of course there wouldnt be a battery. i havea  91 xr 250. it uses a battery. this is probably a stupid question, but theres no chance a bike witha  battery might also have a magneto is there? does a magneto charge the battery?

Yes, and it does charge the battery.

they have the battery on it to run things like the headlight. if you dont have a battery the headlight will pulse with the engine speed. with a battery it stays constant. it doesnt need the battery to start and drive the motorcycle just to provide a constant source of power for the electronics.

so isnt a battery just a capacitor with storage? and a battery eliminator is just a capacitor w/o storage?

this cant be true though because my bike wont start with a dead battery.

unless the storage in a battery needs to be charged in order to allow the electricity needed to start a motor to pass through

is your bike kickstart or push button start? if push button you have to have a battery.

kickstart needs battery too, unless the bike has no electronics

I bet its just the way the electrical is designed. You probably need the battery in it to complete the circuit.

False

Anything with a modern multi coil ignition will need a battery. You have to supply stable voltage to the ignition system for it to function consistently. Consistency=efficiency, which is important for on road stuff.

Pretty much every dirt bike ever made that has a head light and a kickstarter does not have a battery. It may have a capacitor, but no battery. My old XR-650R had a head light, turn signals, brake light, and lap counter all ran off of the magneto. Kickstart, no battery.
