Subaru's paint is really thin and prone to chipping, so 3M'ing it is the only thing I can think to do to help make it last longer. It's either that, or pay $4,000 for a whole new paint job with perhaps a Mercedes-Benz paint, as it is much more durable.

Colorado throws a lot of dirt and rocks at your car. I want to take more precautions with the new bumper to prevent it looking like my old one- which looks like it got thrown in a meat grinder.

MB uses Glasurit paint. The clear cost used is what really determines chip resistance

Weird, yeah loaded finally. And sure enough, yep- I see people wrapping their entire front ends when doing a long distance drive.

Ah, I see. I'm not a paint guy so, schmeh. Is it a good alternative to choose a different clear coat that's *really* good and NOT applying 3M? Or is it still more safe to just get it 3M'd?

Op feel your pain on the thin paint.
I've got lots of rock chips. Fortunately part of my front bumper is plasti dipped so it helps with the chips

I'm guessing the lower cowl of the bumper? Similar to that of the previous Outback Sports?
