Looks nice!
What all is left on the to do list before its out driving?

Oh man, haha! Lots.

Off the top of my head..

- Purchase and install 14" Derale Electric cooling fan with thermostat

- Weld Blow off valve flange, and GM IAT sensor bung to the intercooler piping section closest the the throttle body

- Install 5 speed transmission (once it arrives)

- Install exhaust once transmission is in place

- Tap thermostat housing for 3/8 npt thread for GM coolant temp sensor

- Purchase and install oil cooler

That's the major mechanical stuff that needs to happen.

Then...

For the Fuel injection, motor running aspect of the equation......

-Purchase and install Megasquirt II v3.57 - Relay board- wiring bundle and GM sensors ++++

I am making the wiring harness from scratch, so that has the potential to be pretty time consuming.

I'm definitely forgetting stuff, but lots more to do for the next couple of months.

If I keep my current pace on the car, I am expecting to fire it up sometime in May. Fingers crossed! and weather permitting.

Slowly but surely...

Do people normally put the filter directly on the turbo?
I would have thought that the heat would be a bit much for the rubber/plastic part of the intake.
Then again I picturing some of the super high RPM test videos Ive seen where the turbos and exhaust pipes turn red hot.

Yeah this is a real common place for the filter.

I have decided to keep an eye on it, and as long as my intake air temps don't exceed 150-160 degrees I'll be okay with it. But I am prepared to, if need be, relocate the filter further forward, if for some reason I have problems with it.

The guys I've spoken with about the subject all say they don't have any problems with the location, and most of them aren't running the same wrap/turbo housing ceramic coated heat protection I have.

I've had experience with the wrap and the housings before, and I could put my hand on the turbo while it was hot, and there was no real residual heat coming off of it. It was actually quite amazing.

I'm curious to see the result to say the least.

But good question!

Transmission arrived today.

So I proceeded to clean it up and began to prepare for the transmission install.

Transmission mount: Primed, will paint when I go back out.

NEXT STEP: Install the throw out bearing, it's collar, and clutch clutch fork. Then I get to hulk out and put the transmission back in the car.

Also, I've been thinking more and more about a cold air intake. I figure I'll make one either way, and that way I can test both the efficiency of my heat shielding, and the relationship between IAT and filter location. I figure I have the time. Why not?

I think a cold air intake would be cool, but I don't see much room to work with in there. That filter seems kind of small as well. Maybe it's just the picture?

Yeah, no matter what I do, even if it's just a 12" long piece of piping extending the air filter further forward in the engin3 bay, it will make a difference. I'm pretty excited to do the tests to confirm. But like you said, pretty limited for space, and I definitely am not cutting a hole in the radiator support to fish the filter through to the front for a 'true" cold air intake.

I'll play around with it. And I'm sure to find a setup that meets my meticulous standards.

Finished cleaning up the transmission, and it is now ready to go in the car.

Throw out bearing installed. Transmission mount painted.

This thread makes me happy.
Andy come visit Fl sometime and redo my TA with me.

This might be an odd question, but how long until the tunnel and tranny are caked with dirt and grime again?

Thanks mate!

Haha, I'd love to! I'd take Florida weather over this wintry mix junk up here any day of the week.

And with the new paint on the tunnel, I hope cleaning the underside of the car will be nothing more than a spray with the hose after a long day. My old transmission had a bad rear seal, so that definitely didn't help trying to keep dirt off the tunnel. Hopefully a leak free drive train will make for easy maintenance.
