what's the difference between 4-cylinder and v6?
how come they're not called the same? i.e. v4 or 6-cylinder?

pictures say 1000 words

Inline / straight

V shape

Most 4s are inline engines. Inline engines have one head, one manifold, and a simple cam drive. They have fewer areas for problems to occur and are usually easy to work on. 4 cylinder inlines do have an issue with harmonic vibration that is best corrected with balance shafts. Small 4 cylinder engines produce low torque and usually have to be rev'ed a little higher for power. Modern 4 cylinder engines are much better that the junk from the 70's.

V6's have 2 banks of cylinders in a v shape . There are more parts and depending on the car it can be more difficult to access parts during repairs. V6's produce more power at low RPMs and are smoother than 4 cylinder engines. The V angle is typically 60 or 90 degrees. A 60 degree engine may also have balance shafts to reduce vibration. 90 degree engines are likely V8 designs with 2 cylinders eliminated.

Challenger tried to run my mom's GT at 3am on the way to Little Rock... Didn't get to see whether it was r/t, but it got smoked by a 56 year old woman with ~800 lbs of stuff and a 6 year old in the car.

Pass on it. That car has been beat on hard and he probably has the reserve set at 42k. It is down on power by 20-40whp. It should make 530whp with stock heads.

yeah id never get it after seeing it has had 5 owners lol

but what would cause it to be down that much horsepower with so much work done to it?

doesnt it come with 505 at the crank?, so isnt the power its making actually good? since its making like 630 or whatever they put?

It could be a number of things. These cars are beastly. Ported stock heads a mid sized cam and full exhaust with a halltech intake should make 550whp at a minimum. Guys have made 520whp with a stock cam and full bolt ons with ported heads.

Higher compression and a bigger cam will make 575-600whp. 427" and the best factory GM head in existence is a mean package. The only thing holding them back from 650+whp is hood clearance for a better intake manifold.
