That is a band aid for the STI's factory setup which has a small turbo and high IAT's off the showroom floor. If you try to up the boost any on the stock setup you NEED meth injection to stop it from detonating. So yeah, it's everyone's first mod on an STI, because the STI needs a bandaid from the factory.



Call LG motorsports, Late Model Racecraft, Virginia Speed, MAST Motorsports, Speed Inc, or Livernois and ask them whether or not a car should rely on Meth injection to increase octane and lower IAT's in order to increase boost and timing.



Go change your piston return springs while you are at it. All you know is what the people that built your STI have told you.

My sti is far from stock. but it's a mod that is supportive of larger/higher psi running turbos. I never said anything to rely on meth injection, I was just stating that it is a safe and reliable way to make power with a boosted car. I've read all this on forums. so if you're telling me that the sti community is wrong with their builds then fine so be it. but it'll just show you're as ignorant as anyone else here.

But that does mean it is relying on meth injection. If you tune one of those cars and up the boost/timing to make more power (exactly what you just said you are doing) and then the meth fails you are now running higher boost and timing without the meth. That=Detonation. It's fairly elementary.


The reason the STI community does it is they don't have much other choice. With the way the car and engine are set up it is very hard to make power on low octane fuel. You need to remove restriction from both sides of the engine. That means a less restrictive exhaust manifold, merge, bigger turbo/turbine housing, larger downpipe, less restrictive and bigger cold side piping/FMIC, less restrictive intake, and less restrictive (better flowing) heads. All of that allows you to make more power on less boost which lowers IAT's and makes the engine less prone to detonation.


That's a lot of shit to replace. So, the easy way out is to add a bunch of meth and roll with it.


The reason you see most domestic cars utilizing it the right way is they aren't turbo from the factory. The entire system, everything I just listed, has to be made from scratch in the first place. There aren't any restrictive OEM pieces only designed for 350hp. Everything is built and designed for much higher flow and less restriction.

I haven't read all of dodge's posts but if he were to run an alcohol system I don't see what is so wrong? If he is running it wrong then just explain to him how to run it right? Did you read anything I posted? That is exactly what I did in my first post. I explained how to use it properly versus how he was using it and why that way is incorrect. I was addressing the conversation in general, not you. Then you posted this, apparently without reading or comprehending my post, I'm not sure which.

You more or less said I was wrong and I didn't know what I was talking about. Then I responded by explaining why so many STI owners utilize it in a band-aid fashion.



You see, all I've done the entire time is explain and explain. YOU are the one that wants to argue without backing your view up with facts. So grow some balls and LEARN something from someone that is trying to explain how to do something the correct way, drop your pride and listen.
