Yeah it was that bad. The owner of the car set up an appointment for a drivability tune since we swapped the 6 speed in. They did the original tune in 2007 with the automatic. It was in a trailered drag car. They did a WOT tune because that is all it needed. It fouled plugs and ran like shit at anything other than full throttle. It ran 10.20's though.

Fast forward to 2009 we drive almost 5 hours to have them tune it with driving in mind. After letting it idle with the laptop on it for 5 minutes mike said it looked pretty good to him (the tune). He said one of the O2 sensors was switching slow and he wanted a different spark plug in it. So the owner lets them change the plugs and sensor. Mike does 2 pulls on the dyno and says he added a little bit of air. He drove it down the street and back and said it was good. Owner walks out with a $950 credit card bill. It made 3 more whp with the same top end and less drivetrain loss from a 6 speed. The TH400 had an unlocked converter. That should be a 10% difference right there. The whole thing was shameful. I tried to convince him he was getting the shaft but he took their word for it and realized it on the way home. When he left in 2007 with the initial tune mike told him it was WOT only and the tune wasnt finished. A couple years later he said it looked good as it was...

PCMFORLESS tuned the same engine in a C5Z06 and it made 528rwhp with the same cam and Trick Flow 235's so the engine was fine. Their dyno is known to be stingy where vengence's dyno is known to be generous.

i estimated around 18% drivetrain loss for it.

405-410 whp would mean 9-10% drivetrain loss which is definitley way to low

well i was guessing by using my car as an example, rated 420 at the crank, dyno revealed 377 to the wheels.

but ill take your word over mine.

18% is too much for an automatic version. His manual is more like 13-14%. Its been tested over and over again. My friend has one that dynoed 386whp with nothing but a catback. They are underrated a bit from the factory and the drivetrain loss is impressively low in the automatic cars. 18% is too high for any manual car with a straight axle. 15-16% is typical.

that would be around 11%
pretty low but they could just underrate their engine, if not, props to ford because thats pretty good even tho i cant really believe that

im not very experienced in that department, but isnt the drivetrain loss for automatics higher as for manuals?

edit: found that

almost 20% even

I was talking about the mustang. Thats why his estimations were off. He was basing his calculations on his own car which is underrated and has low drivetrain loss.

automatics and independent suspension will always be higher.
