you are lucky. Here in Michigan, they charge you based on the new value of the vehicle. They got tired of every car being sold in the state costing $100 and only getting $6.00 of taxes. My son bought a 99 eldorado, and had to pay close to $600 for transfer and plates to drive on the shittiest roads in America.

michigan is terrible but id say indiana isnt far behind it. when they have a stretch of interstate that beats you to death they simply put up rough roads signs to warn you about it. they are finally fixing some of i74 by cincinnati
