BMWS are incredibly known for having expensive electrical issues. Most consumers do NOT fix their own car issues, and general costs of European cars are higher than that or Asian/American. Not to mention any disassembly of the car is usually more complicate which equals more time and more money. This statement is onyl true to repair costs of European cars in the United States. It will vary per country/continent.

You might have "higher quality" parts, but that doesn't mean you're maintenance free by any means.

Your personal experience doesn't outweigh the majority especially since, like I said, the majority of consumers do not fix their own issues nor do they go above and beyond on representative maintenance.

Nothing fast for 25k brand new.

As for used BMW expensive repairs, that is an outdated concept for the most part. Recent year BMWs are not what they used to be and repair costs have gone down significantly unless you are a moron using the stealership for repairs after warranty is over.

Of course, common sense dictates that an imported "luxury" car will have higher maintenance compared to a Corolla or Mustang. But the "everything breaks after warranty" is an outdated concept from older years. Mostly 2012ish and older. Reliability has gone up by a ton in the last 5 years for just about all manufacturers in general.

U.S. vehicle recalls hit an all-time high in 2015 for the second year in a row as regulators cracked down on safety defects.
Automakers recalled a record of 51.2 million vehicles over 868 separate recalls in 2015, the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration announced Thursday at the Washington Auto Show.
That narrowly edged the previous mark set in 2014, when manufacturers recalled 51 million vehicles through 779 recalls.

So increased regulation and recalls = overly expensive repair for BMW issues after warranty is out?

dosent quite add up lmao??

Go look at repair costs and "common" issues statistics.

Your claim was that reliability has gone up by a ton in the last 5 years.

Wait...

How do you know that the 2012 and newer vehicles will have fewer issues as they age compared to older vehicles? They haven't aged yet... from someone that works on cars and works with equipment hundreds of times more expensive than a bmw I promise you the trend with increased complexity is increased long term maintenance costs. Thst isn't industry specific. The less parts and systems you have in a machine the fewer things you have that can go wrong.

If you ran an E36 BMW and a new M4 around a desert track until they failed, which do you think will have travelled farther?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't you looking to trade in, or get rid of, your 1 series once the warranty was up? I thought I remember reading something along those lines in the past.

I do agree with FMX, the simpler a machine is, the longer it will last.
