you just gonna do trails or you going for motocross? i heavily assume dirt bike=motocross because that's what i'm use to lols.

Whatever you buy enjoy it man get some buddies ride n just enjoy it I remember all my first vehicles they always meant the most still wish I hadn't got rid of em

yeah 250 4 stroke then should be a perfect fit. i hate 2 strokes on trails but some people like it.

mx bike might not be the best fit for what you are wanting though. they will definitely do trails fine but the ride height can get a bit annoying if you stop a lot. lot easier to sit there with both feet flat lols.

trail bikes are a bit bland for my taste but they are much easier on the rider in that environment.

How much $$$ do you have to spend and have you ever rode at all before?

xr250 are good bikes to learn on,
pretty cheap and probably the most reliable dirt bike out there.
