MSRP was 80k, but I got a 9% discount. Then threw about 10k worth of mods on her, bringing it back to 80k

meh.....that's a rip off......well sort of. You could have had a Z06 at that price, but not 3lz

I live 15 minutes away second largest vette dealer and could walk out with a new z51 for 52k

They are selling z06s for 75-81k

I think you could have done better, but in the end, you probably dont need the z06.

I think he went round and round on getting a ZO6 or not. He isn't going to use the power, so a loaded base with aesthetic mods made more sense for him than a base C7Z. I'd be the opposite. $71k for a loaded Z51 isn't bad. The labor he was charged to install the easily installed aesthetic mods is probably obscene.

you juuuust missed my edit.

The only thing is 2lz and 3lz aren't really THAT entertaining as far as the goodies it includes. Certainly nothing deal breaking.

In any case......

It's a lot of small stuff that adds up. If you look back at the C6 3lz and 4lt cars are holding their value much better than the early cars that didn't have that option. Personally, I don't see $20k between the two cars. I see closer to $10k, like it was on the C6.

I debated a long time on a stripper z06 or a fully optioned out z51.

The "tier" goes like this:
Base C7
Z51 C7
Grand Sport C7 (Z51 with z06 body kit)
Z06 C7

I didn't need all the power that a z06 has and didn't like how I cant get all season tires for it. Where I live, you can experience all 4 seasons in 1 week.... So you essential HAVE to have all seasons to be "safe." That was the main deal breaker.

As for why I decided to get fully loaded z51 over stripper z06? Some people enjoy their car by driving it hard. I'm different, my enjoyment doesn't come from having the biggest baddest engine, but I do value having all the high tech features, gadgets, and higher quality leather. For me, having all the bells and whistles lets me enjoy every second while being in my car when traveling between point A to point B. Think of it as having a Victoria secret level hot girlfriend (10) who doesn't cook/clean/etc... All shes good for it looking hot and putting out. OR having a "still pretty hot gf" (8-9) and she does everything you could ask for. Personally, I'll take the latter. But hey, different stroke for different folks :)

They don't make All Season Tires in z06 size. Rumor had it that the new "Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+" would have that size, but TireRack confirmed Michelin has no plays to make them.

They don't really have Winter tires either.... There are some that will "fit" but it will rub. I dont want that.
