I've seen them both called half shafts. I've always called them output shafts.

The CVs connect to the STUB AXLE (hub side of the cv).


EDIT: I'm still slightly confused as to your issue, though.

EDIT #2: or are you talking the diff side? Then yeah, input/output shafts/flanges are what people around here call them.

english is my second language so i was wondering if maybe i was making the wrong assumption as to wat is a halfshaft.
in my book a halfshaft = cv axle
in os giken book halshaft = diffenrential output shaft

the differential is listed with half shafts included

Halfshafts are like stub axles, some cars have a inner piece that doesn't come with their Continues Velocity axle. It consists of a bracket and a bearing where the splines of a CV axle shaft would go.
