I just fail to see the reason to pull an engine down that is only half way through it's service life. For what you are talking about spending you might as buy a forged short block to go in it.

did rings and bearings go up in price?

I used to work at a machine shop i can do everything at home lol

A complete gasket kits costs more than the engine is worth in running condition. Reusing the oil pump? Cam? Springs? Pushrods? Lifters? Timing chain? It adds up quick and if you aren't replacing that stuff you might as well leave it running.

A BW S476 doesn't cost anywhere near $3500 and would make a ton of power on a 4.8.

i see these motors go for more then 300$ consistently (im in florida so we dont have to deal with rusty blocks ect)

but cam/springs and lifters will all transfer to the new motor if/when the time comes, timing chain and oil pump are cheap and i do get really good prices through nickles on the gasket kits (i work @ a shop)

I was looking at garrets turbos, considering trying the gt35 that everyone is so proud of

Also aren't like 90% of the gaskets on the ls motor reusable silicon/rubber gaskets? obviously need a hg but other then that just little misc stuff (that will probably nickle and dime me to death)

Oil pan, front, and rear cover gaskets are reuse at your own risk. You will need a new rear main and front seal. New lifter trays, oil pump and timing chain will run you $200, head gaskets alone are $70 for OEM MLS. An entire gasket kit is about $400 for good stuff. You will need a new crank bolt.

A GT35R is absolutely tiny. A masterpiece T70 is the smallest/cheapest turbo I would run on a 4.8. You are reusing your heads so the $300 value thing is for the short block. That's all it's worth on a good day. Just being honest here.

less the heads, maybe so

Haven't really ever done anything that wasn't N/A and never done a ls build of my own so maybe so, but a 500 hp 4.8 is just as good as a 500hp 6.0 IMO.

Maybe ur right though i could prolly run for a while on stock internals and eventually swap in the 6.0 when the time comes.

hopefully instinct doesn't set in and i build another bigblock

I was kinda considering on3's kit but i figure the hot side probably take 45 minutes to make if i had the manifold, and flex pipes are like 15$... and a ebay turbo i could get on my own lol so i kinda shot that down pretty quick, atleast i know how they did it ^_^

Got some stuff done on the ratrod, today.. our 42 ford project..........guess ill just update my projects here since the monte carlo thread died due to lack of updates

Spent about 5 hours today messing around with different ideas, the front end was very time consuming but im happy with what all we got done

Made the front end 1 piece lift off, finally mounted the radiator, finished the ladder bars and welded a hoop in the cab, mounted/wired/plumed the guages, welded the solid motormounts and permanently placed the engine (frame is from a late model truck front halved with a 72 camaro frame, motor is moved back about 10")

Sorry for lack of documentation, my buddy matt took alot of pictures and ill see if i can get any from him

The truck is intended to be a hotrod 7.0 and 7.50 index truck, running a 454 with iron heads, and turbo 400, ladder bars, 10bolt with 3.73s and a full spool from my 86 monte i had left over after i upgraded to a 9" will run a 26/9 slick when its all said and done

Again sorry for lack of pictures but heres some juice ;)
