I'll try and put this nicely, but the fact is if you don't have the cash to make real power you're completely wasting effort in "weight reduction" for a performance in a daily. The gains you will see out of the work for a car like that is something you probably won't ever notice. Just drive it and do motor/drivetrain work when you can if you want, but imo just keep it reliable and get through school.
I mean you could do things like this..

But for the time/money/work we are talking about turning a 15.4 second car into a 15.3.... unless you are building a track car weight reduction is pretty far down on the list of upgrades. Hope this helps
