wouldn't a leaf spring conversion be cheaper and easier than coil?

On an envoy? Nowhere to put in hangers.

People convert expeditions and lincoln town cars all the time. It usually costs about the same as a full R&R of the air system but you never have to worry about it again.

Thanks for the input.

How much do you guys think a job like this costs, to convert to regular springs?

It would be cheaper to fix whatever is wrong with it than convert anything.

If the bags hold air it's not the bags that are bad, if it fills sometimes but not always it's probably a bad check valve or something similar not sure how the air is setup on those I'm used to tractor trailer air systems.

I'll go with this. Point being, depends entirely on the leak...

Interesting.

My mechanic mentioned that is a possibility, it could just be the valve leaking and not the actual bag itself. I'm hoping this is the case. I'll have him take a look at that first.

This is what I was wondering too..

Mechanic mentioned something about having to "fool" the system once you remove the bags because of the sensors/electrical side (i don't know much about it). So i'm kind of scared that this could turn into a bigger job than advertised...

I could definitely have the bags replaced, but like 5 years down the road i'll end up having the same issue and that will piss me the fuck off lol.

get the vehicle running and aired up. crawl around under it and see if you can hear the air leaking out. if you cant pinpoint then shut the car off and check again. im guessing if the entire rear end is staying level and one side isnt aired and the other isnt that its probably a hole in an air line or a valve that is stuck causing both of the bags to stay the same. air bag systems really arent that hard to troubleshoot you find where the air is leaking.

dont convert it

If that was the case, wouldn't the truck be lopsided?

If there's just a valve leak or whatever, wouldn't that just be on one side so one side would be aired up and the other wouldn't? Or are they all connected

on semis a valve operates both sides not just one. im ASSUMING that any valves are tied to both sides on the denali and not just one side because that would assure that you are getting even pressure to both sides at the same time. correct me if im wrong there. thats why i was saying if one side is going down and not the other its probably the bag itself.

personally i would get down there with some soapy water in a spray bottle and spray the bags and air lines and look for bubbles. our air bags get weather cracking before they are 5 years old (we also haul a lot of weight and run a ton of miles) once you can rule out leaks then you can move on to troubleshooting if a valve or compressor or something else is going bad

Standard 80k pounds. I wouldnt pull much more on these antiques. Our trailers are 95% spring ride.
