It's still not good to let it idle

My truck kicks in high idle after 60 seconds.
I let it warm up for like 10 minutes in the winter maybe longer. (Usually -20 or colder in the winter months) by then the vents have just defrosted the windshield.
But in the summer no maybe 20 seconds.

Diesel with high idle is a completely different animal. If it was ever cold enough for mine to come on i'd let it go a minute or two but 15-20 degrees F is about as cold as it gets here.

we had a few gassers on the farm for chores and they were there for 15 years if not more.

Average cold day was get in, turn the key, put in gear, and go. Short trips, horrid maintenance, and constant cold runs. They actually lasted longer than the vehicles we drove on the road to be honest... Not from a mileage standpoint but a time standpoint. They were probably close on engine hours though
