Under 20k?
Get a Subaru.
Legacy/Impreza 2013+
Reliable in bad weather, good gas mileage.
Best re-sale value.

If my parents were buying it I would just get something thats used, only 2-3 years old with like under 40k miles rather than something brand spanking new.

imo.... Check out the new Jeep Renegade... Its a bit smaller than a CRV in size, 4wd, gets great gas milage, and that little 2.4 they put in it pumps out about 180 hp..

Pretty neat little truck. They start around 17, and a fully loaded version only bumps it up 8k more, around 25k.

lol this is the fiat 500 body, ive seen and taken them apart in real life.

My parents really don't like used cars for some reason lol. A lot of people are saying the corolla is more reliable and better in the long run, but I really like how the 2015 mazda 3 sedan looks.

Still can't really decide between the two.

if reliability is the main thing get a mitsubishi. They offer a 10 year warranty in my country (Canada), I'm sure it's the same in the states

Yeah they're pretty ugly and probably lame to own but cheap with a 10 year warranty sounds like a good buy on paper.
