On my '14 sierra I had my engine light on for evap. I assumed it was the gas cap and went to make them put a new one on and they said my evap container was broken and $450 to replace it. I put my head under my truck to check it out and something came up and cracked the plastic caseing. JB welded that crack and cleared my engine code and its good to go. $10 on a tube of glue fixed a problem they said it would cost $450 to fix, so ya fuck the dealerships

Sounds like something they would do.
Just saying though. The way you worded it sounds wrong. $450 to REPLACE sounds like what they were charging for. Labor + new Evap container.

Aftermarket CVT fluid is $12-$15 so you are definitely not getting ripped off at the dealer.

?...

$12-$15 a quart = $20 a quart?

yeah youre probably gonna want to use the oem cvt fluid. unless you just like playing russian roulette with your car. you should at least investigate what kind of fluid they are going to use and check to see if anything else is compatible instead of just believing that anything they tell you is going to be a lie.

you can look into what cvt fluid your parts stores have (assuming its a cvt) and see if they are compatible with your vehicle and then if they are cheaper. i have no experience with cvt transmissions or their fluid so i cant tell you what, if anything, would be another option that would be cheaper than nissans fluid.

Since my knee-jerk reaction to anything the dealership says is skepticism =p I looked around for opinions on CVT fluid. Found this forum:

Looks like I *could* use off-brand CVT fluid, but on the off-chance that the tranny grenades for any other reason, the dealership would likely point at the CVT fluid, and says that it voids the warranty.

Also found a place near me that sells the Nissan name-brand CVT fluid, for *less* than $20 / quart.

So, yeah. Point remains: I still inherently distrust dealership mechanics.
