I have 2 firebirds and as much as I love/hate them I would not recommend one as a practical DD.  For $10-12k you could easily find one in really, really good shape with the right mods already done but the only practicality of the car is the gigantic trunk well.  The back seat is big enough for a small adult for a short trip.

Whats a back seat I just have my mobile trash can behind me

No on the mini cooper

For practical fun I'd add about $1k to your max and find an 05 or 06 GTO 6 speed with the lowest mileage I could find.  They are far more comfortable than most things in that price range and have quite a bit of room.  The maintenance is really cheap as well.

I'd agree with this. As long as you get an 05-06 you will be happy. GTO is a really fun car, and the neither of the ones i've own ever let me down.

That is some good advice. I am a pretty big dude 6'1 220 lb. I larger car would probably be a good idea. I like the idea of the GTO. They look like a lot of fun. I am just bmw fan boy so those shiny bimmers make me happy from a cosmetic view. I do love LS engines though. I drove a firebird for a while

I looked at GTO's before I bought my challenger and if it weren't for the deal I got on my SRT8 I would have bought the GTO. It actually has more room in the front and back seat than my challenger does.

To some people an lsx car is practical. If I didn't have a kid i would consider a vette practical.

Practical doesn't instantly mean honda civic or toyota camery...

This. Now with 2 kids the mustang isn't quite as practical as I wish it was. Looking for bigger now.

Although each individual car is different and has different experiences with its owner, I would be hesitant on buying an older bmw.

My vote would be a mazdazpeed 3 for cheaper repairs. Gti (even though it's still European)
Wrx

350z for something less practical.

All topping max budget.

If you don't care about possible expensive maintenance, for what you really want and get a bmw.

If you want a BMW I'd say just go for the e90 330i. If you're willing to look at something else I would consider a G35S.
