I definitely advise getting something bigger than a 1000. Bigger bike is going to be a more comfortable ride. I love Harley, but i wouldn't touch an 883 unless it had a fat tank, bars, forks, shocks, stretched, and forward controls. I'm a big fan of the Shadows when it comes to the Japs. I rode a 95 shadow 1100 for about 4 years before i got my Harley, and still pull it out of the garage and put miles on it every year.
