The way they test MPG on Hwy and city is off technology from around 1990's. If they were to use updated methods. Them MPG numbers would nose dive. And the car manufacturers need to comply to certain criteria in order to deem their cars a certain class.
It all goes back to government. Fuck it all.
The new SAE standard gives less optimistic numbers than the old standard but it is closer to real world numbers with an average driver. I think it was updated in the early 2000's.

The 6 figure cars usually have the worst reliability because the cutting edge features are not KISS. Ferrari's burn to the ground and the expensive German stuff has 40 million miles of wiring that causes problems.
