of course, all I need to know
I don't need to know anything mechanical etc about the truck
I do internal inspections on parts looking for defects only
not a bad job really

im not an otr driver either. i dont know if its fatigue or what their problem is but a lot of them are idiots. i actually went to a truck driving school to get my cdl but i use my brain and have never had trouble. usually its these big fleet drivers though i dont think most of them have ever received proper training but then you also have to have a certain amount of common sense

and i wont take offense to that because we do get a black eye from some of these guys but they are more exceptions and not rules to our profession

I see some fucked up shit too. Some guys look like they can't back a car out of a parking space yet they are in our plant with a 53' box. Those types will never be good. There are some guys that can back a tanker with a sleeper cab lwb truck as well as i can with our yard dog. Pro status there.

When i was back up north we hired an otr driver to run a haul truck in our sand mine.

That shit was fucking funny. Dude couldn't back up 5 feet if he tried.

In his defense, its a lot different than a truck and trailer but seriously... He acted like the mirrors didnt exist and kept cranking the cab side to side to see where he was going lol

He had no judgement of distance either.. fucker almost backed into me multiple times... He learned fast though. Take a 4 yard bucket on a hoe and slap the headache rack a few times and they usually get the idea after their head hits every window in the cab.

certain trailers of ours can make us not look very good backing up either. we have trailers made in the 70s and 80s and one of the axles can get out of line and cause it to have a slight tracking problem. then you have to left and right it some because they wont back straight.

We had 25 new 53 foot end dumps bought for the mine to haul from dry plant to rail loadout and within a month, none of them backed up straight either...

Not sure if it was from me loading them or them jumping curbs loaded... Probably a combination. They were all 30k on the dot unloaded and full of fuel. With my correct math, they were all loaded perfect with 32.5 ton on :D
