Buy a nice gas saving DD and purchase a new car after you know what you have left month to month.  Within 6 months you should have a good idea how things work.

What do you want?

Performance ?
Reliability?
Luxury?
A little of all three?

A wrx would suit you. You can pay it off in two years and it will cost you $26-32k new. Generally, depending on the list price and vehicle, you can get cars for a couple thousand less than list price. Don't pay higher than Msrp which you can find on the manufacture website.

Tell them what you want to pay punch them in the face if they dont agree with you.

funny thing is, you kind of have to.

When i got my new challenger a couple months ago, i told them what i was going to pay for the car take-home. As in, all delivery fees and gas guzzler/ taxes and warranty shit, etc all included. They kept giving me numbers quite a few thousand over what i said and they kept saying "this is the best we can do" etc etc..

and i said specifically, "no, fuck you, i told you what i will pay for the car and if you cant do it then i will go home. I dont need to buy another challenger, i already have one thats only 3 years old, Either give it to me for what i said i will pay for it or im leaving".

20 minutes later, they had all the paperwork done and everything for exactly the price i stated with everything included. Not a dime over.

One thing you cant do when buying a vehicle, new or used, it let them push you towards anything you dont need or want, especially the price..

Got my 2014 dodge challenger hemi 6 speed manual for nearly 10k under what they were asking and trying to sell it to me for. A few thousand of that was from trading in my 2011 but regardless, in the end i got a 38k car for just over 30k vs the 36k they were trying to push on me

Thanks turbo.

Every time I went to a dealership to help my GF buy a car, we've spent 2 hours or so before going home

You'll enjoy an s4. Just note that European cars tend to cost more in repairs and maintenance.

The s4 is quite a bit more than 40k, you can either go big and get it or get a 20k car and save for two years for the s4.

Payments for the s4 with no down payment could be around $800 vs $300 for a 20k car.

there is no need for a "hell of a day" with salesman though. Go in, tell them what you want exactly, and make it clear that if they cant make it happen, that you arnt going to waste your time listening to them run their cunt mouths and that you will go home.

In that case, you'll have no problem paying under 40k for a used one.

Good pick
