Also, if someone can shine some light on tire size.

My oem wheels are 17". 7.0. +48
The wheels I just purchased are 17" 8.25 +35

Oem tires are 215/45/17

I'm not sure which wheel I would be using in the winter, but would like to purchase winter tires that could be interchangeable with each set of wheels.

What tire size would compliment both wheels functionally, without stretching. Also, at what milimeter length does the tire actually begin stretching compared to the wheel length? I know my wheel difference in width is quite a lot 1.25"

I'm new to this :(

Over an inch is a lot. It's going to bulge a bit on one and stretch a nit on the other. All tire brands are not equal when it comes to size just like shoe sizes. A 275 nitto and 275 MT are over an inch different in section width. That said, i can't give you an exact number where it will start to stretch. I think a 225/45/17 would fit both but it will stretch/bulge a bit. Ideally you would run winters on one set in the right size and summers on the other in the right size.

A 225/45/17 shows a min width of 7" and max of 8.5". It can vary by tire brand and series though.

Thanks.

I'm curious as to when stretching occurs though. If the wheel is 8.25", then it's 210 milimeters. If a tire is 215, it will still stretch? How many milimeters would a tire have to be more than a wheel for it not to stretch? I'm guessing there isn't an easy answer for this, but the answer would solve my problems, haha.

Curiously though, I've seen 17" 8.25 run on the stock brz tires 215/45/17

225 will definitely stretch a bit on 8.25's.

But for your other question, you want to run winter tires on the skinnier set, the OEM wheels.

And I've seen 225's on 9.5's but that doesn't mean they weren't stretched to hell lol

225's will not stretch on a 8.25'' wide wheel.. in the VW community.. most of the GTI people have 18x8.5 wheels running a 225/40 and dont stretch...very veryyyy slightly if any.

Definitely NO stretch if its a 225/45.. since the higher sidewall will make the overall tread width wider...

Now if you went 215.. then yes, possibly a tiny bit of stretch...

But with 225/45..you'll be fine

If I decide to use my oem wheels on winter tires, that leaves my 8.25 wheels on 215/45. I don't know if I will financially be able to pick up another set of tires for spring/summer/fall if 8.25 is too much for 215/45

This is what it looks like on stock tires, same wheels specs, different suspension. These are matte black, I ordered Chromium black
