yes i did read it and a blasting wont lay up the vehicle but an hour to do ll the rims.
take it to a blast shop after work and they will take the rims off, blast them, and then put them back on.

aerospace paint remover is MEK - methyl ethyt ketone. i used it daily working on helicopters and planes.

mek is volatile so becarefull it doesnt get on anything but what you want removed. Ive seen it combust on petro based paints and materials like rubber before.

that's why I recommends skipping chemicals, if you aren't skilled at stripping with chemicals mistakes are going to happen.

Yeah, throw a little MEKP in some acetone on accident, and you'll put a crater in the floor.

Shit is dangerous.

You shouldn't need to clear coat powder....

How do you plan on refinishing them after you get them sanded??

And I'm just telling you what I was told. It was my stepdads buddy lol
Well I was going to plastidip. I would plastidip them now but it looks terrible bc there's spots powdercoat and others of the rim. It just looks really cratered.

You can use the aircraft stripper, but its nasty stuff like others have said. Im not sure what MEK will do to the tires either. A wire wheel might work alright but it also might damage your wheels. What are your wheels made of?

Personally, If you like the style of wheel, I would try to find a day (weekend?) that you can borrow someones car and take them to have them bead blasted and powder coat again.
A good powder coat job should hold up a long time and look nice too. But if its just to get you by for a while, A wire wheel might get it prepped enough for some plastidip, just use one with a higher grit so you down chew through the rims in a second.

That's the problem I don't have money. So they're the stock rims I'm just tired of the pitted and rusted mess they are. The rims are steel. I'm just looking to do some prep work in my free time and then when I do have a day off I'll clean up the rims and plastidip them. So I have regular paint stripper will that work or do I need some aircraft stripper?

I didn't know powder coated wheels were supposed to be clear coated.

Either way, go the plasti dip route.
If there are craters id do an extra few layers of PD to help cover it up (unless they are terrible then it really isnt going to help)

And powder coat doesn't need to be cleared.

At least not in the sense you guys are thinking.

I'm pretty sure he isn't talking about a polyester clear coat that's sprayed.

He's most likely referring to a two step powder.

They make base coats and top coats for powders too.

If he isn't talking about that, then the dude who shot the powder didn't prep well enough, or doesn't know what he is doing.
