In theory but if the car was low enough on oil to get hot(doubt that was the cause) the thing would have been knocking, banging, and clanking its way apart. It other words there is no way he would have kept driving it with it being that low on oil unless he is an absolute imbecile.

ta da

Oil is a lubricant for the moving parts. If the moving parts were not lubricated and overheated to the point of effecting the temperature gaugeyour engine's internal rings, pistons and most likely the entire block would have been destroyed.

Yep blown head gasket

Agree. I'd recommend taking your car to a shop to check your radiator fluid for traces of oil, it's a rather inexpensive test. It may be a very small leak right now.

Keep putting it off and you'll ruin the engine entirely.

I get what you are saying. I've overheated from no oil before but I also didn't keep driving. God Damn oil pans.

I drove my civic for 15 minutes with absolutely no oil, It started to snow and it dusted the road. Was coming to a light and my car just would not stop, every time I tapped the brakes it would start to slide even just if I slightly pushed them. Well there was a new cts in front of my and I didn't want to wreck it so it was either jump the curb or hit the new cts. I jumped the curb and hit a street sign pole.. 3 feet either side I would have been fine, but it destroyed my oil pan put a 4 inch hole in it and all the oil ran out. I drove the car home with no oil and was fine. My cars temp never rose either.

You could have gone for longer most likely. Theirs going to be some residual lubricant coating the cylinders left over enough to get ya a few miles.

A local high school was having a rally/fund raiser at a car dealership in town. Just so happened to be where I traded in my Ford tempo, the best car I've ever owned.
My Tempo had over 200k miles, still ran awesome but the rear axle had issues and wasn't worth fixing. The school rally/fund raiser drained all the oil from the engine and stuck a brick on the gas pedal. Part of the $ making was betting how long the engine would last. It ran for over 9 minutes with no oil and bouncing off the rev limiter.

That friggin' Tempo refused to die. ;)

:wallbash:

So your car is still under warranty but it is severely overheating and having all these issues

Sounds like a badly blown head-gasket and now you have been lubricating your engine internals with water instead of oil. I would assume the engine needs a complete overhaul at this point.

Edit- Ok its an 03 civic with extended warranty.. sounds like someone sold you a lemon.. sorry bro

^^^

It's possible that the head gasket blew and the oil crossed over into the coolant side thus the low oil level and overheating due to lack of thermal efficiency caused by the oil film coating all the metal surfaces.

OP once you overheat a car or run a car out of oil and it goes long enough that it effects the way the car is running it is too late. The damage is done. You can't just fill it back up with oil and coolant to get back on your merry way. It's an 03 civic. Start looking for and engine because it sounds like it's coming apart soon.
