Crack in the manifold would be my guess, or a bolt isn't tight. When the metal gets hot it expands and in your case, not leak.

Another thing... what is the worst case scenario for having a cracked manifold... what would it effect and what else could it wreck? cause its a hard truck to find parts for as its not common to break down...( i think)

He didn't say a mechanic wouldn't be able to tell him what's wrong, he said he doesn't want to pay for one for the possibility of the mechanic saying he doesn't know. It doesn't hurt to come on here first in case it is just a minor fix.

Lifters are tapping.  Does it do it more when you let off the gas? Mine did. For a long, long time.

I don't think you'd confuse that noise with an exhaust leak though. My wrx has a pretty wicked lifter tick when its cold.

It could be a serious problem with the internals in your engine thats going to make it blow the next time you start it and it could be a small exhaust leak past the o2 sensors and be completely harmless. No one is going to be able to diagnose that from your, "my car is making a noise" post. You want some magic fucking fairy fix for your car that isn't going to happen because you're to cheap to have it done right. If you want to know whats wrong with your car then either learn how to work on cars or pay someone to fix it. Posting, "my car is making a noise, what do I do?" on d2jsp is your bullshit excuse to put off having to spend the money to actually find out what is wrong with it. Just because you don't like the facts doesn't make me ignorant. Deal with it.

I think a sticking lifter and an exhaust leak sound extremely similar, at least on a 99 crown vic and a 08 crown vic.

I do have the intention of buying the proper headers and doing all the work myself... BUT i am not an expert on exhaust manifolds and what the potential dangers of them being left unchecked could be... I have the money i just need the time to actually do it. i did the engine swap myself so i DO know how to work on vehicles.

Again mr. rude face
Have a good day

So we went from "a sound like an exhaust leak from the front of my car" to, "my exhaust manifold is bad do I need to change it?" all because someone said it might be the exhaust manifold. Brilliant.

Lol. Told you mang, should have just believed me you goon

And Enemy you are being a jackass, if you dont have anything helpful to stay gtfo. He doesn't know that much about diagnosing things and was wondering if anyone else might have an idea of what the problem is.
