Swirling is like the karate kid "wax on, wax off" thing right?

Never learned how to properly wax a car, I just do what makes it look good.

If that is what "swirling" is, I always do swirls to wax lol

Swirls come from using a circular motion like that. Use straight strokes in the same direction the air moves over the car. Wax isn't a polish, there is no need to rub or press hard. You are coating the clear coat.

sounds like a huge waste of time

don't you guys make more money in the 2-3 hours it takes to wash/wax that you can just pay someone to do it for you? wasting 3 hours a week doing this just doesn't sound cost effective.

I enjoy the process of detailing cars, so I happily do it myself. I wash my car almost every week.

I'd say doing it yourself gives you a little more pride in your work, even if you could pay someone else. And I don't get an hourly wage so I wouldn't know if I could make more or not.

i'll never understand the sentiment behind "doing things yourself." a professional will always do a superior job and there are much better things i can be doing with my time.

This is the DUMBEST statement ever. He is hardly a professional, more like a guy that was looking for a job and stumbled upon car detailing. Don't pretend it's a hard or daunting task.
