Ford all day long.
30k should get you into a 2011-2012 diesel crew cab.

With ridiculously high miles, it will. Being around a military installation requires ~500 mile drive to get into normalcy for prices.

Duramax is bad simply because of using Aluminum heads on an iron block.  Well known problem....

Ford F250 and I would consider the powerstroke if you're pulling anything heavy.

I plan on pulling a 22 foot center console, nothing major.

So make a day trip and get one?
Don't overpay.
I flew 3 hours then drove 16 hours back for my truck.

If you're going to spend 30,000 get a used cummins......

This. 06-07 5.9L with a g56 transmission if you can find one would be ideal.

If you want to stick to a halfton i would recommend GM, or a newer ram with the 8 speed auto.

6.4 is worse. A 6.0 is fine once you delete it. The 6.4 will always be a turd. They cut international out on the new 6.7. So far i have only heard good things but he isn't getting one for 30k. Not unless its a 2wd work truck model thats 1 year old.

I would agree when speaking of the drivetrain but my 06 has had too many little bs problems for me to recommend one to someone that isn't prepared to work on it themselves.

Most credit unions will loan on something like a diesel truck that holds value. Mine was 6 years old and i got 3%/48 mos on it.
