it happens when i accelerate somewhat but mostly when im accelerating from about 45 to about 55. It really sounds/feels awful and worries me when it happens.

Did you check your transmission fluid levels? Now I'm guessing OD is going out.

* Can you select 1 2 3 and D? If you can maybe only use 3 and it'll prevent OD from kicking in possibly. Of course you'll have to drive slower.... just thinking this may be an option if the tranny is breaking but not entirely broke.

Also - buy some of this and use a lot of it! (seriously)

Usually when transmissions are going out you'll lose reverse first but maybe something is wrong with OD.
A bottle of Lucas tranny fix is your cheapest option right now.....

I'll ask again.

Did you check your transmission fluid?

Or maybe I should ask do you realize automatic transmissions take transmission fluid?

I know its an automatic you already said that. After you start it and put your foot on the brake you select a gear. What are your choices for forward gears?
I understand you normally use D for drive and R for reverse.

well i just dropped it off at a transmission mechanic, and they quoted me $1695 to rebuild it :(. after calling several places, that was the best price and highest reviewed place.

the problem was much worse today, couldn't really get past 45 miles an hour. the truck would shake violently as if struggling to accelerate.

Downer... only other option I can think of is chancing it with a used tranny from a junk yard. Only bad thing is it may break a month down the road then you're back at square one.

Curious....what type of warranty do you get for the $1695?

Normally I'd say that sounds way overpriced, but I just put a set of coils on my Lincoln and it ran me 400$ in parts alone. Best bet check prices on your coils and wires online.
