The fuse would be a good first thing to check and replace, before going out and spending 20 times as much on another possible solution.

First thing would be to go to a different shop to see if they can scan it/figure out the reason it cant be scanned. Guessing isnt diagnosing.

For the OP - the fuse is -most likely- the reason they can not pull codes from your car, but it won't actually cause the light to set in the first place, although it will on a couple of makes. Expect to find a P0420/430 (converter), p0171/174 (bank1/2 lean) , p0135/p0141/p0155/p0161 (o2 heater circuit) or p0401 (egr but really will be dpfe). Most are cheap easy fixes, converters not so much.

Me? No. I'd take my kick panel off and see why they're claiming my vehicle isnt scannable. If they said they'd charge him $85 they clearly have an idea what it is thats causing it.

They wouldnt estimate 85 dollars if they thought it was going to be a 2-3 hour job.

I didnt mean take it from shop to shop, I just meant that you shouldnt just take 1 persons word. Seek other help ie: forums, friends, etc.
