Lmfao definaty worth a watch ahaha

He's a really funny guy, and has 40 or so vehicle reviews that are pretty accurate. I found him watching Miata videos, and his Miata review is great.

They are a horrible design until we get the materials to properly make them. There are many cars more fun to drive, like its little brother the MX-5 ( which shares the same platform). When you buy a car knowing its going to need an engine rebuild every 80-120k, unless you have tons of money I don't understand why people get them. They're OK to drive until then, and there are much better options for the price. I don't understand Mazda's plan with this, I don't think it should be legal to put these in factory production cars.

Haven't gotten to drive an MX-5 but from what I have heard they are quite a blast.

I dont think pricing on them is that bad, considering what the MSRP was when they came out. There is a lot of hate surrounding this car, a lot seems to come from those who have never owned one to experience it.

I have had mine for almost 7 years now and the only complaint I have really had is my sun visor melted off.

I am not defending the engine as I have owned it long enough to hear the horror stories on the rx8 forums. Its a shame the engines weren't built with more future emphasis in mind.

Mazda did step in and offer extended coverage on the engine components which is nice to see. Not sure if that works on buying one used.

The mx-5 drives like an rx-8 with a little less power but Much better handling and responsiveness. You can get them for Much less than an rx8 and the engines generally run for hundreds of thousands without a rebuild. Its cool that Mazda offered extended coverage on the engine, but that should have never been an issue in the first place. I've never owned an rx8, but that is for good reason. I've known plenty of them, and rebuilt so many that I know better ( I was an auto mechanic before I became a helicopter mechanic).

Ahhh right on. Handling and response is 10/10 in my books, a little more go would be good, but is there ever a ceiling for that?

I was actually going between an S2000 and the RX8 when I originally purchased it. Opted for the RX8 for the back seat area which has proved extremely helpful over the last few years. (surprising what you can fit back there) Had I known of the engine issues when I bought it I may have went towards the Honda.

All in all, even if the car were to shit on me in the next few years (knock on wood) I wouldn't regret my purchase. Have had many many road trips and fun in it. Looking forward to spring so I can get it out again

Sorry for thread hi-jack OP. If you are serious about looking into one, be wary of the engine as some have posted. I would strongly encourage 2006 or newer (a lot of issues with earlier models) and as with most cars, keep the mileage as low as possible. These things eat oil like a champion. Gas is expensive.

Do research. When you think you know a lot, go back and research more. Check out the RX8 Forums, a lot of information to go through.

This isn't a thread hijack, its a good on topic discussion about the rx8, and may be helpful information yo the op.

The s2000 is a great car, but generally compared to the mx5 not the rx8.

Still debate buying an s2000... but GF would kill me lol. Still want to give an mx5 a go sometime. Always good to see both ends of the spectrum when getting a car.

/e I just enjoy getting in my car knowing I will have a giant smile on my face when I am driving it. Drove my brothers STI and although fast as hell, felt like I was driving a box around. Nothing drew me to feel a connection in that car. Same went for a friends 350. Just wasn't a drivers car. If that makes any sense. :wallbash:

I feel like if you do you'll get one. They're very fun cars.

S2000 vs RX8 is a no-contest situation...S2000 every time.

If RX8...LS1 swap.

Yeah. I've noticed that Rotary Engines kind of suck. Hard to find people that can fix them too. I don't plan on drag racing this car or anything or riding it really hard. Idk, I'm usually a good driver, I just really like the look of the car.
