I feel like if you are trying for around 500whp you might as well just build the engine and make it NA.

NN to turbo an LS1 to only hit like 500hp

i plan on buying a c5 this year and i want to make good power within a year of the purchase and i keep looking around, ofc going turbo is pretty nice upgrade.
i dont ''mind'' having over 550 rwhp but going pass 10psi on a 10.1/1 compression engine isnt the best im guessing. is going directly for an iron block and swapping on all the ls1 heads/intake worth it.

Just got for a nice hci setup . Will be good enough for ya. Probably cheaper and less dangerous to the engine . I'm sure fmx can fill in the blanks but if I can get 450 out of an lt1 with a hci setup I'm sure you can get it with an ls1

Budget 402 LS2 stroker or 414 LS3. 520-560whp with good heads and intake. Unless you have been in something 3200lbs with that kind of power you will shit yourself. Going FI only makes sense if your end goal is well over 600whp.

And no rear mounts. Period.

This or if on a budget for a drag car and using a 5.3 turbo is a great option.
Turbos setups in a c5 or c6 is pretty cramped bigger CI NA motors are better imo
If you need more power you can always run the bottles on one of these setups.
The bigger bore engines can use L92 heads which are insanely cheap for what they flow.
Simple 6.0 with l92's and a cam/intake/headers/tune will run nearly 500hp to the tires(will need around 7k rpm so prepare to rev a bitch)
In a street car this is all you need any more and you need to start looking into built trans/rear end.
Also tires will get pretty costly

If you are driving a stock LS1 c5 then going to a bigger cube engine with nice heads will knock your pants off.
going from 320whp to 490whp is a massive difference with nearly zero weight gain

In my experience, the lag from the turbo as opposed to going h/c/i to keep it NA will probably be a better option for you. Instant power and you aren't compromising any of your internals as stock cr isn't ideal for boost, which is why all those setups keep the PSI extremely low. If you must have boost, I would look in to a blower as there is virtually no lag and the whine is much more appealing to me on a big motor. Again, this is just my opinion. I've since gotten out of large displacement engines and focus on smaller, i6 or 4cyl sleeved block applications with ideal compression ratios for high boost, in very lightweight cars. Our Datsun 510 was a screamer.
