when you go to engage the 4x4 and push the 4hi button it lights up the 2 and 4 hi lights and then stays in 2wd. i havent looked at it yet but he said you cant hear the transfer case making a sound like its trying to switch
my thoughts either 4wd switch on dash, transfer case electronic module, or the vacuum diaphram under the battery. if it was the diaphram though i think it would still switch and show like its in 4x4 it just wouldnt engage the front differential.
anyone have any idea or heard of one doing this before? might look at it tomorrow i dont know yet we already have stuff planned.
Judging that its a chevy and the fact that they are notorious for the actuator going out in the front diff that is prolly what it is. It is electronic but instead of just a motor moving it there is like a coil that heats up gases that move a piston. Needless to say they are over complicated pieces of SHIT and fail a lot especially in cold climates. Most guys switch it to a manual lever that goes into the cab for ultimate reliability or upgrade to a better electronic version. I have upgraded mine and just in case I keep a spare one on me that has been modified so if I screw it in the frontend is engaged all the time.
If not there is a similar actuator in the Tcase that is prone to going out. Put it up on jack stands and start the process of elimination.
