Sounds like tranny and/or engine mounts. 900rpm isnt too high for idling in park.

this is all what im thinking

forgot to mention engine mounts were replaced already :(

also, i know it is normal for a car's interior lights to dim and the rpm's to drop when front window defroster is turned on... how do i know if it is losing too much power when that happens though? i'm not sure how I can tell because all my interior lights get significantly dimmer.

i think a video is due. your idle is normal. but i agree with IBOT on transmission mounts.

ill try to make a video but i'm not sure how I would go about uploading it on here from my phone :o

Tranny mounts?

Honestly your best bet is to call your dad or uncles and go to a mechanic that they know and is good. Grt him to look at it.
If its been doing this for almost 2 years, i think its safe to say the transmission its self isnt fucked, just something els is out of wack. Buuut it may be too late now, afterr being slammed for that long. Never know.

already had these looked at, family mechanic said they were fine. he thinks it is transmission but i dont want to go jumping the gun to shed out over 1000 on a new trans + fees

@mods, sorry about double post :(

if it sputters or almost dies..
anything that draws power, and if your idling, you will feel it drop. it SHOULD pick back up close to where it was at before you turned what ever on.

While the car is running, the battery isn't doing much of anything. Its all on the alternator. Have it checked. The dimming should be barely noticeable, and go away almost immediately. The RPM drop means it is putting too much load on the alternator.
Also, you don't have a five speed transmission. The "fifth" gear is actually the overdrive band, which is why the transition is less severe.
There are only really a few things that can tell you what is happening with a trans-axle without getting it off there and looking. Apart from what it does on the road: Fluid levels, visual abnormalities, and odd sounds.

On a side note.... I've dealt with "family mechanics" quite a few times...and I gotta tell ya man, its a crap shoot. There is a reason they aren't successful mechanics.
I would advise taking it to a reputable shop that does quite a bit of business. They may charge you a few bucks to look it over, but its well worth the price in the long run.
