Makes enough difference in insurance to matter to me, but I'm a greedy bastard. We're drifting far away from the point though. OP's not talking about building a race car as best I can tell. He's talking about making his fun dd more fun.

He asked if it was worth it and I said I'm fundamentally against modding the lesser performing version. That is how we ended up here.

Then you don't have 6k for a procharger kit, you've still got 400 hp, and you're paying insurance for a v8.

So you are making the same power. The difference being when you spend money on any parts now you get much bigger gains. Dump 20k into both and see how vastly different they perform. I'd bet the stock 5.0 gets better fuel mileage than the procharged v6 negating the insurance difference.

Best sounding exhaust for the mustang IMO is the Y pipe + gt500's. although idk how it'd sound on the v6.

If your looking for best performance for your buck go with an AED tune. Will do wonders

And alot of insurance companies will drop you if they find out you are procharged lol.

So even if you drive a 5.0 it's a bad idea to procharge your dd :p

I do respect what you're sayin though fmx. I just have a different outlook on things I guess. The way I see it, a v6 mustang may be the lesser performance car compared to a GT, but a GT is inferior to a Boss or a GT500, and they're inferior to a Cobrajet. So in the grand scheme of things, being a step down doesn't render a vehicle unworthy. It just means it's a step down.

You don't need a procharger to make power with a 5.0

When comparing to a GT500, the GT is still a V8 though, it has the displacement to make more power, and they built the entire car around the fact that it has more power. You can't compare the Cobrajet to anything because its not road legal. The V6 was only recently even made to be remotely respectable, but its still the car for people who want a pony car but don't care about going fast, or for people who honestly don't know any better lol.

The car costs less. The major performance parts and labor still cost the same while giving you a smaller gain. The car isn't pointless to me. Modding it is. Like you said it has it's place. Being modded isn't what it is designed for.

like ride said, its a lesser platform. Its not like modding a base vette vs a Z06. Both see similar gains from parts of the same cost. It's like modding a v6 silverado as opposed to a duramax.

If your car is like your sig, a new stang, I can help with decisions, I have a 13 gt. If its a v6 you have id just go axle back and call it a day. As fmx and the others said if youre looking for performance gains, it really doesnt matter cause its a v6. A catback will just have a deeper tone, add a few hp and cost you a few hundred more.

I have headers, xpipe, roush axleback and dyno tuned it, and it is fucking loud. That setup gained me 44hp, the real power comes from less restrictions, so changing the headers will yield the most hp exhaust wise, but again if you have a v6 its really a waste. Itll never sound as good as the 5.0 no matter what you do.

if you have any questions shoot me a pm, can link you to a few good sites, let you hear my car if youre interested in the Roush axleback, or any general questions.

If its a V6, why bother?

Save up for that 5.0 swap.
A V6 isnt going to sound all that great (at least not as good as a real V8 mustang) and the power gain is trivial for axle backs at least.

If you stumble across a good deal on headers or axle backs than I would consider it, but at full price I wouldnt.
I paid $60 for my shorty headers NIB. They definitely improved the power and sound, but Im also driving a V8.

The new v6 stangs are as powerful as your v8 lol

yours still would sound 1000x better though.
