Ls1 powered cars are 98-02 which is the second design of the 4th gen. Do yourself a favor and drive a $1500 beater for a little while before you buy one of those. You will definitely crash it.  I own one.

Is this chance for an accident everyone speaks of because of inexperience with driving? or freezing up on what to do at a particular time with a manual? or a bit of both?

I've been driving the family van for about 3 years now, 1 of which was delivering pizza. Also drove from nj to alabama and back with my dad. So I think I have more experience than average at this age.

the chance for accident is because you will be prone to making stupid choices like spinning the tires around a corner, going too fast on roads you don't know, generally playing street racer too much.

Mainly do to showing off or something stupid like that with your friends
If you have the money I dont see anything wrong with buying a 4th gen fbody for a first car
That is if you like them
You can also get a 540i BMW with a 6 speed for very cheap.
Even a basic e36 or e30 325is would suit you well

I can think of a few reasons against them in his price range. He needs at least $6k for a decent one. Owning a ragged out 4th gen isn't much fun if you have no mechanical skills.

If you buy one make sure it has ebony interior. I call dibs when you part it out.

Yea on 4k price range me might need to look elsewhere
A Vtec powered civic or accord might be right if you want something fun
b16 or h22 with a 5 speed can make for a fun little car

Still a 5 speed 3 series would be a great option I think

I have some. Done work here and there with my dad.
But with a powerful car(some of the BMWs listed), that means I'd have to spend more on gas and more on oil/filters. Which is definitely something I would need to take into account.

Can you explain ebony interior?

A 4th gen ls1 car is a $30k car that has depreciated down to $6-$8k. They aren't hard to work on but one in that price range will most likely be on its last legs. A couple of owners have ragged it out. Unless you are capable of pulling a transmission and installing a clutch I would leave it alone. It will get better mileage than the BMW. Parts on the BMW will be more expensive and they are much harder to work on.

With your budget as bad as I hate to say this get a non riced out Honda. Stick shift and cheap. Working on them is like Legos. Don't turn into a Honda fag though. Never forget that it is anything but a race car.

Ebony (black) interior in 4th gen fbodies is desirable. I was making a joke that you should buy one with ebony interior so when you wreck it and part the car out I can buy it from you. My formula has grey cloth.

Yeah I would never do anything like that. Thanks for the info. It helps a lot. It's just hard to picture myself driving a civic lol.
