what kind of truck and what motor you got in it? off the top of my head i would go with 10w30

and if youre that worried then yes just change the oil. i would get the leak fixed though if its that bad.

i agree...I've been told that 10W30 is much better for the engines that have been alive and running for a long time

It was raised on non-synthetic. All the sludge in there is non-synthetic. The general theory is that synthetic oil and dinosaur oil don't mix properly and can cause clogging problems down the road.

I thought dino oil was primarily for diesels though.

You can also get a jug of some thick ass oil you add in with what you ready have

Ive seen the jugs at canadian tire, never tried it personally
But its basically super thick shit that will slow down any leaks ( clug them so to speak ), i also wouldnt recomend running this stuff if you get cold winters. Might not turn over, or snap a conrod

The truck already has a hard time waking up during the winter with the choke on, so I'll have to pass on that.

Still could be a summer time fix when its hottest and oil gets thinnest
Drain and run your normal thickness in winter

As far as newer vehicles go. Your truck was built in a time when synthetic oil didn't exist.

For a truck that old, a 10w-30 or 10w-40 would be fine.

right, so if you not sure whats in there you go with a semi synthetic aka 'synthetic blends' they are blends of mineral oil with no more than 30% synthetic oil

that's what you want to use if you have no idea, Quaker State and Castrol are the 2 brands I have seen that have the most options

and then when its time to change the oil, get a paint pen or a sharpie and write it on the underside of the hood or core support/ some where so u don't forget what you used
