ive seen women truck drivers that are a hell of a lot smarter than a lot of the guys out there. its great technology for sure but hell anti lock brakes on a semi helps a lot too. the trailers we pull dont have abs (too old) so they suck ass if you have to get on the brake very hard and they lock up on you. in the winter i like to keep my brakes backed out a quarter or half turn so they dont have as much grabbing power when it snows.

Now, i dont drive semi very often at all, and only a hand full of times with an enclosed race trailer but if that thing was loaded like half of the trucks in the states, theres no fucking way that thing is stopping that fast.

look up info for Collision Warning with Auto Brake. it not only determines when you are approaching another vehicle too fast but it actively stops the truck if you dont hit the brakes. it also applies full braking for maximum braking. trucks can actually stop pretty damn fast under certain circumstances but this takes a lot of the human element out of an emergency braking effort. its pretty damn neat technology really but we most likely wont see it in america or it will be far down the road before we do.

It seems like a good system under the right circumstances. But you know just as well as i do that if this shit goes off in the rain/snow, shits going to get ugly.

i'd love to see this with shifting cargo loaded.

This, like i said, under the right circumstance it could be a life saver, however there are so many variables that would come into play to make it worse then it was better.

This whole system can be avoided by simply paying attention... i dont know how many times i've passed rigs where the driver is reading the newspaper or a damn book...

its not a foolproof system of course theres going to be situations where it wont help



paying attention definitely works.

i think trains have it worked out pretty well.
