If you just need basic, no-frills transportation from Point A to Point B, /co-sign on Civic. My DD has 300+ k on the original engine and drivetrain, still runs like a champ.

The bare-bones, base model Nissan Versa might also be an option. Base model, no extras at a dealership out here started at 10k on the sticker. O_O Again, for an econo-bucket, hard price to beat.

impalas are getting a major overhaul for the 2014 version...not that you're looking to buy new or anything but keep it in mind

if it were my money and I was looking at something reliable/sporty-ish/nice looking I'd go with (but not limited to): Maxima, TSX or TL, newest gen civic SI, A4, 2010+ v6 mustang (a bit out of your range but this is the year they overhauled the mustang), WRX

edit: the one car I'd die for right now is a BRZ/FR-S though

Any car from 2008 and up should last 3 years... You can literally buy the first well cared for 2008+ and likely be fine if you keep it up well.

I own a 2007 Mustang GT and I wills ay that if you are looking at them, dont waste your time with the V6. My GT feels slow as can be and it puts down about 300RWHP. The ONLY benefit to the v6 is cheaper insurance. Gas wont be that much different, V6 looks worse, performs worse, etc.

And if it helps my 07 was about half of what your max budget is and i bought it in 09 or so. You can find one in your range fairly easily imo.

I haven't had a chance to look at one close up yet. How roomy are they in the back?

Also do you know about how much the difference in insurance would be between an 8 and a 6?
