i myself looked into buying a fiero a while back
for all the oil/fire issues here is the answer:
the user manual/dipstick said to put ''x'' amount of oil witch was way low compared to the ''y'' amount of oil needed. this would lead to major issues and once the oil got out it would catch fire on the exhaust manifolds.
that issues was attended to, but the fieros image was damaged for ever. the other common problem is the coolant pipes get bent from garage lift bending them without knowing how to properly lift a fiero.

the 2.5 i4 iron duke is still an economical engine by today standards, add that to the fiero's composite body and you got yourself a fuel sipping vehicle.
then in 1986 the v6 option was available for a little more pep
and in 1988 they did the whole suspension revision giving the rear mid engined car the handling capability it deserved. then they retired it cuz corvette
