The first generation MLs are possibly the worst cars Mercedes has ever built. Sorry for your loss.

The "common" problems with the W163 are no big deal.

Apparently first gens may have issues with the fuel level sender (for the fuel gauge) And it's an easy fix if so.

Also have heard of a couple water pumps going out around 70,000 miles, which again, isn't a huge deal to change. And it's part of the routine maintenance.

Other than that, most people say they love em.

Great SUVs

The only other obvious future expense I see is tires, and brakes, but that's to be expected with a heavy vehicle such as this.

As for this, the vehicle came with actual receipts from a reputable Springfield mechanic listing that the vehicle got a new trans 30k miles ago, brakes less than 1k miles ago, and the manufacturer's fix for the fuel level sender a little over 1k miles ago. Also, it's got some high end directional watertreads that appear to be very nearly new. I don't know if the water pump has been replaced, but she runs dead on 80 degrees celsius at all times.

You got a good color too.

Not that POS silverish color that it seems ALL of these things are....

And it sounds to me like you shouldn't have too much to worry about. Transmission replaced is interesting, any reasoning as to why the original failed in the records?

Something about an unidentifiable shudder. The first owner (I'm the second) was a pretty wealthy guy, so he probably just decided it would be more convenient to buy a new one than to try and track the problem down.

Well at 30,000 miles it was probably still under warranty. Enjoy her, the Paralegal that works for my Lawyer owns one. She LOVES it.

Couldn't resist what, telling you the truth? This era of Mercedes truly has some of their worst vehicles ever. The quality isn't there and there are many known issues. Hence the extremely low resell value (specially for the ML).

except the difference between OP and you is that daddy doesn't pay for all of OP's things.....

I'm sorry that you are either too dumb or ignorant to realize that this is a good find... especially for someone who pays for their own things!
