are you familiar with the big name dealers in your area? like john smith chevrolet etc

their websites will probably have a used car section so don't forget to check them out.

That's true, I was going to head up to the chevy dealer and etc at some point this weekend to see what they have in store there. Just figured a big name dealer might be more expensive, but I guess they'd be willing to lower the prices as well if you can talk them down.

you can always talk down a car dealer. if they don't take you seriously enough to negotiate then walk away because they are just trying to screw you.

Yah that's one thing I was told by a teacher a few years ago...walk in and offer them ~500 dollars over what they paid for it and if they don't want that commission right then and there...walk away lol I checked average trade in values for this 2002 chevy and it's ~2600 in good condition with this many miles...so I won't pay them over $3500 for it, no way in hell.

ya i'd probably go 3000-3200 on it at most. it is a 10 year old car at this point and it wasn't exactly expensive when it was brand new.

If they have quite a few used cars, they may be selling them wholesale. Which pretty much means they don't really go through and inspect it or fix anything. They estimate a price and slap it on. If it doesn't sell in a month or so, they auction it off.. also as is.
Honestly I'd trust a used car place over a dealership for that one reason. Finding a "good" used car lot is difficult, but well worth it.
Best car that I've ever owned was a 97 Thunderbird. It had around 75k on it, and when it finally died for good it was at around 210k.
I got it for 4200 back in 2003. The starter went bad in about a month, and the place replaced it for free. There are some real slime balls in the used car business, but not all of them are.
Food for thought.
