The car is meant for drifting. The wheelbase is way to short, and the car as no downforce.

exactly.

How does the swap effect the weight and weight distribution though?
I dont know how it compares to a swapped miata, but miatas keep their handling properties almost identically and make for great track cars.

*sigh* I thought this car comes Awesome already...I mean Scion makes cars their way for a Reason but...whatever. I guess people love swapping engines to make interesting Sleepers.

Not shitting on people's creativity, I love how interesting some builds get...I saw some dude take a picture of a 4-AGE swapped in it which was an awesome homage to the 86 but...*sigh* whatever

One of the clubs at georgia tech is swapping a 2jz into a MG midget their last build was a supercharged v8 miata built for under 2k.

You don't get it. Both cars, miata included, have a very short wheelbase. Short wheelbase + lots of power = tail happy as fuck. The only solution is a ton of downforce, which that car does not have.

Tech fixed that problem on theirs :D

If miatas are lapping good times with 400 HP turbo setups, why are they suddenly going to get slower with a V8 setup?
You will definitely need to be smart with the gas pedal but you also have a much better power band to work with.

I know I saw a video once where a V8 miata was out running some vettes and porches but I dont see it now.

Yep, its part of one of the challenges where you get like $2012 (since its 2012 this year) to build a racecar. I have seen the MG and Miata in person and they are sick.

Damn that wing actually looks like it provides efficient down force.

:edit

Its a supercharged Lexus V8, thats about all I know. I saw the motor and supercharger sitting on the ground the other day but didnt snap a pic :/
I had to do some work for my senior project in the same shop they do the motorsports stuff so I saw it all up close. I really wish I had gotten involved during my time at Tech. They have some awesome projects and great resources (equipment).
