can someone explain the process of breaking in a car engine? just got an a4 and a friend of mine was talking about not revving the engine too high until 1500km or so

Unless you personally have replaced the piston rings since it's been made, absolutely no need.

And even if you had, just put the car in third and coast down a massive hill a few times to seat them.

only thing you should break in is the tranny and diff. just change all the fluids at 500 miles and you're fine

Ive never had a New New car, but Ive also heard not to burn it out until like 1,000 miles. Don't redline it, stuff like that. Not sure if there is truth to it, but I just wouldn't run it hard for month. Not that big of a deal to me.

First 500 miles I took my frs to autox. Just made sure to change all the fluids before and after. New cars motors are basically broken in before they get to the dealer

Usually done with crate/performance engines or a rebuild, special oil is used which attracts and deposits metal filings etc left from machining/honing into the oil pan. That oil stays in for a very short period of time (minutes) and then replaced with your standard oil. I believe that oil should be changed around the 500-800km mark. The intervals start getting longer from there. Not something you need to worry about with a factory executive sedan. Change the oil at about half the recommended service interval for your first oil change if you are really worried about it. Don't cheap out on your oil get the good shit.
