looking to possibly get a vehicle (subaru) with automatic trans. that may have a CVT (transmission), I know the obvious pros and cons, my question is if you had the choice to get a vehicle with a CVT or without a CVT (regular automatic transmission) which would you choose and why?

CVT is fucking junk.

If you plan to modify your vehicle at all don't get one.

They shred under any torque.

If you plan on keeping it stock, the new CVT Subaru offers is pretty decent.

drove a 2016 WRX with it and I was surprised

It just doesnt last long on higher loads.

hmm. ok. Iso more opinions

The one knock on the Subaru CVT seems to be excessive engine braking, and noise (not worried about the noise)

it means that when you modify a car to get more horsepower, the CVT is a lot less reliable.

so don't worry about if you plan on keeping the car stock, its a decent CVT. (at least the new one they introduced in the 2015 WRX)

not familiar with older versions.

yes keeping everything stock

thanks for the tips

the CVTs are probably generally the same model to model within all subarus yes? I hear some years the CVT isn't as "refined" i.e. the 2012 impreza

that im not sure...best would be to compare specs for each model year / model you are interested in and see if they have the same CVT system

at least that's what I would do
